A case of fall from grace for a woman in the business world
BUSINESS & MANAGEMENT
It has been a fall from grace for one of the eminent members of the Indian banking industry - Ms. Chanda Kochhar. Accused of first indirectly benefiting from a lending transaction (where a quid-pro-quo was allegedly received in lieu of recognizing the loan as a Non Performing Asset) and then secondly not disclosing the conflict of interest in this transaction, Chanda Kochhar has been let go by her erstwhile employer i.e. ICICI bank. The link below elaborates on this case.
What hurts more in the given case is the fall of an icon who had otherwise charted her own course in what had been traditionally a male preserve. A long timer at the ICICI bank, Chanda had risen through the ranks, eventually going on to become its CEO and lead it through an extraordinary phase of growth. If the allegations are proved (termination from job being already a blot in this regards), it will merely add to the list of venerable characters who eventually were discovered to have feet of clay.
