Agentic AI
What is it and how does it differ from generative AI
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been the talk of the town for the past few years. What has changed recently in this discourse is the focus from generative AI to agentic AI. Here is my take on what separates the two. While generative AI creates content (text, images, audio, video etc.), agentic AI utilizes generative AI to automate tasks in the pursuit of a stated objective, coupled with an ability to analyze the progress and course correct as needed with minimal human intervention. As an example: interacting with Gemini / ChatGPT / Claude / Copilot to get ideas for the places to visit during the next vacation would be a use case of generative AI. However, agentic AI would take it a step further by checking out possible logistics options and helping you with the booking of hotels and transportation.
This shift in focus heralds the true age where white-collar human jobs would come under increased threat of being made redundant due to these AI agents. Sharing herewith a link to an article from the IBM website that gives a nice explainer on this topic. Have a read through and let me know if you agree.
