Data breach at Equifax
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Credit agency Equifax's IT network was breached sometime in late 2017 and this led to data privacy of approximately 143 million people getting compromised. A report from US congress revealed recently that this network breach was caused by an expired software certificate. BBC Tech has written an article that explains what these software certificates are supposed to do, why do they expire and how their non replacement could have led to the network breach. This makes for an interesting reading for those interested in the nitty gritty of an IT setup.
