Earth Overshoot Day

There is an organization called the Global Footprint Network that compiles United Nations data every year to calculate the day when our collective resource consumption exceeds the annual ecological regeneration capacity of the planet. In a way it shows the day in the year when we as a human race started living off beyond our means.
Although its calculation mechanism is a little fuzzy, it is commonsensical in its approach. A very good initiative I say to increase awareness within the society to be environmentally sensitive. Given below is a link to the article on Popular Science website that talks about this concept.
