Emerging technologies - hype versus reality

It is a familiar script by now -

  1. A new technology advancement is announced,

  2. Marketers rush to claim that it is the panacea everyone's been looking for,

  3. Initial adopters are however disappointed and marketing hype is proved to be just that i.e. hype,

  4. Behind the media glare the technology is further refined, and finally,

  5. A more mature product / service based on that technology is launched which gains credibility among the masses.
