Global Capability Centers (GCCs) are in-house extensions of multinational companies that are increasingly leveraging Indian talent in their global setup across many of their functions (not just IT). Many of these have come up in tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India in the past decade. Their expansive growth is inevitably drawing comparisons with the traditional Indian IT industry, which especially in the past couple of years is facing an onslaught of doomsday predictions driven by rise in capabilities of Artificial Intelligence. Would be interesting to see if both of these industries can thrive together or it would be a case of the GCCs upstaging the incumbent.
