Yesterday, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to commemorate June 21 as the 'International Day of Yoga'. This endorsement from the world body for a discipline that seeks to provide physical, mental and spiritual upliftment is indeed noteworthy for its noble intentions. Originating in India, this discipline today has a significant following across the world, evident in the fact that 170 member states of the United Nations co-sponsored this resolution.

Given below is a link to the actual text of the resolution as taken from the UN website.

As one twitterati has humourously pointed out - the choice of the day for commemorating Yoga (June 21) is very apt. It is the day of summer solstice (longest day in the Northern hemisphere). Therefore no excuses for anyone for not doing yoga exercise :-)
