Look before you eat
HEALTH & MEDICINE
If anyone does a research on resolutions made on key dates such as the first day of the new year or birthdays, I wouldn't hesitate to bet big on finding that 'going on a diet from tomorrow' ranks up high on a vast majority's list. Why tomorrow you may ask - well it isn't fair after all to expect the person to start with something so drastic on that very important date itself, is it ;-)
So for all such persons wanting to control their diet from tomorrow onwards, there' s some great news - a gadget called TellSpec is apparently under the works and is expected to be released in the market sometime in 2014. With this gadget one can know what is in your food before you buy, order or eat it!
How it purportedly works is as follows (taken from the gadget's website):-
"When you beam the light in the TellSpec scanner at a food product, some of the photons in the light are absorbed, which raises the energy states of the molecules in the food. Lower-energy photons are then emitted back. The spectrometer inside the TellSpec scanner sorts these photons by wavelength and counts them. The resulting numbers, called a spectrum, describe the chemical compounds in the food. This spectrum is uploaded to TellSpec’s analysis engine where it’s analyzed and correlated with other reference spectra. Information about allergens, chemicals, nutrients, calories, and ingredients in the food is then downloaded and displayed on your smartphone."
