Making effective business presentations

It is not for nothing that the phrase 'death by powerpoint' was coined. We have all sat through, or worse still, given such presentations at the end of which no one around the table was any wiser than before about their objectives, contents and / or conclusions. While it seems like a pretty straightforward thing to keep presentations short and to-the-point, achieving it in reality is very elusive.
