Misconceptions regarding a great workplace

Talk of an ideal workplace and the image that conjures in front of most of us is an environment that is a cross between Disneyland and the next door cafe where friends gather for a daily chat. Such an environment is supposed to be conflict free, fun-filled and in summary the type where employees are happy all the time leading to excellent overall productivity. Now is this really true?
