Novel approach to detecting tsunamis

'Tsunami' a word whose usage up until a few years ago was confined to the experts, suddenly became a part of the general discourse with the catastrophic events that took place in the past few years. Since these events, there has been an increased focus on detecting tsunamis as early as possible before their landfall in order to be able to evacuate human life from the kill zone as well as salvage / protect property to the extent feasible. With technological solutions involving placing expensive sensors at the ocean bed, there has been a lot of ongoing research to position these sensors better i.e. in a less expensive manner with the same potential output.
