Novel ways to promote book reading

Recently came across two novel ways of fostering the habit of book reading. One involved embedding RFID tags inside book covers so that those books can also be used as 'transport cards' and another involved setting up kiosks that one could use to obtain short articles / stories that would help them to utilize their available 1/3/5 minutes in a different way.
