Nozzles to cut water wastage
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY
Every passing year the effects of global warming are getting harsher and harsher. This year, residents of the Indian city Chennai experienced a water shortage so severe that it started inviting comparisons with the 'Zero-day' phenomenon that had threatened the city of Johannesburg a few months back.
It is not without reason that the proverb 'necessity is the mother of invention' has come about. Triggered by the abysmal state of affairs during this water crises, a group of engineers from Chennai city came together and have developed one of the many solutions that will be needed in this fight against water shortage. Their solution involves affixing specially developed nozzles to all water taps. What these nozzles do is effectively convert one drop of water into many droplets that provide more water exposure to a given surface area with less quantity. In layman's terms, if these nozzles are used in a typical household on taps used for washing hands, the estimated savings is of 35 litres per day!
Given below is a link to an article that elaborates on this invention. In these times where bad / negative news reigns supreme, such positive developments are well worth our time!
