Representation of a country's size on a map

In the world of cartography it is a known thing that the usual political maps that we see, tend to visually depict an incorrect picture of a country's size (area) relative to other countries. This happens to account for the flattening of the spherical representation of the globe. In these maps the countries nearer to the equator seem to be of a smaller in size while those closer to the poles are shown with exaggerated dimensions.
