In an age when tweeting about 'preserving the environment' (as opposed to actually doing anything about it) is the go-to option for self-proclaimed environmentalists, the story of Tulasi Gowda comes across as a refreshing change. The according of India's fourth highest civilian honour (the Padmashri) to her, made many of us aware of the phenomenal work this lady had been doing in near obscurity for the past 50 odd years. As a society we need to be more appreciative of persons like her, who have put in the efforts to make a real difference. While they may not command the attention of the media that fawns over 15 year olds who mouth platitudes and make the right kind of noises while championing environment friendliness, their actions do speak volumes about the massive work for which we as a society are truly indebted to them!

Given below is a link to an article that contains a detailed write up on who Tulasi Gowda is and her claim to fame.
