Sentinel islands is one of the outcrops that form part of the Andaman & Nicobar group of islands. The natives to these islands have a history of resisting any contact with the outside world and have still survived for thousands of years. To prevent any accidental contact with fatal pathogens carried by the inhabitants of the world around them, the Indian government has declared illegal any attempts to contact them.

This community recently came into the limelight when a missionary, in an attempt to reach out to them, illegally rowed over and got killed in the process. Given below is a link to an article that documents the previous attempts to reach out to these island dwellers. Notable within it was the presence of a female anthropologist who in the 1990s was part of a team that established a friendly contact.
