The sub-2 hour marathon

For as long as we can remember, the human species (represented by its elite athletes) has been pushing at the boundaries of our physical limitations, resulting in records galore. Recently, Eliud Kipchoge, the celebrated Kenyan holder of current world record of running a marathon (42 kms) in 2 hours 1 minute and a few seconds, created a new one - of running a marathon in under two hours, long considered as a near physical impossibility.

Let the magnitude of this feat sink in, perhaps a translation of the efforts in better terms as follows might help. This is basically running a mile in four minutes and doing this consistently and consecutively for 26 iterations!

Given below is a link to an article that describes the support that went into making this feat possible. While it may appear churlish, because even with the available support Eliud did have to run himself, the information is fascinating.
