To whose credit is it anyway?

On the question of who deserves the credit for an individual's achievements, the answers vary vastly from person to person. To some, it is the individual himself or herself; to some, it is the group that the individual belongs to and operates in, and to some, it is purely a culmination of an uncontrollable factor such as providence or race or gender etc.
